(MANHATTAN, KS – August 21, 2019) Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK) is celebrating the 10th anniversary of American Airlines regional jet service with a cake cutting ceremony on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the terminal lobby.  The public is welcome to attend the ceremony, which will launch a 10-month-long campaign and contest for prizes.

American Airlines officially started service at Manhattan Regional Airport on August 25, 2009.  What started out as a single destination to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) grew to include Chicago O’Hare (ORD). Passengers getting on board at MHK have also increased dramatically in the last 10 years, growing from about 10,000 to over 70,000 enplanements and setting a record in 2018.

To celebrate the historic occasion, a cake cutting ceremony will launch a 10-month-long campaign and contest. The contest starts with the first flight of the day on August 23, 2019, and ends after the last flight of the day on June 30, 2020.  The Manhattan Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) is managing the contest, which will include monthly drawings for various vacation and staycation packages.

“The growth of the airport is reflective of the growth of our region, so we are really excited to partner with the CVB to celebrate both our air service and our regional partners,” says Jesse Romo, Manhattan Regional Airport Director. “The campaign is a great reminder to support your local airport and enjoy all that our region has to offer.”

To participate in the contest, any passenger 18 years of age or older who flies in or out of Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK) between August 23, 2019 and June 30, 2020 is eligible to submit one (1) entry each time they arrive or depart MHK.

Drawings will be held in 2019 on October 1, November 1 and December 2, and in 2020 on January 2, February 1, March 2, April 1, May 1, June 3, and July 1. Each time a prize is awarded, all remaining entries in the receptacle will be tabulated. The odds of winning are dependent upon on the number of entries received since the last drawing.

Manhattan Regional Airport provides the Flint Hills region of north central Kansas with commercial airline and private/general aviation services. The newly renovated passenger terminal currently offers three flights to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and three flights to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) daily.
